I preface this post with the fact that I love the ‘Biggest Loser’ show on NBC. I eagerly tune in each week to see how the contestant’s progress and I usually shed a tear or two. However, it’s unrealistic to follow the same plan as the contestants in everyday life. While on the show, they don’t have work or family responsibilities so they are able to workout for 6-8 hours a day. They are also provided trainers and all the right foods to eat. The show’s focus is also just on weight loss versus making meaningful lifestyle changes.
So, instead of losing weight Biggest Loser style, I’m losing weight Kate Conrad style. As I’ve mentioned before, my primary goal isn’t to lose weight but it’s to learn how to live a healthy life. For me a healthy lifestyle includes spending time with family and working and exploring new adventures (this is a pretty large category). At the end of April, I have planned to participate in one such adventure held in D.C. The Run Amuck race, a 3.5 mile run with a bunch of obstacles along the way, is making me a little nervous because I have to climb over a wall!
A healthy life for me means being able to tackle a new adventure like the Run Amuck while not huffing and puffing all the way through the race. I’ve found that including a bit of exercise each day (even just 15 minutes) and eating less provides great results. Not only have I lost 30 pounds in 5 months but I’ll be able to complete the Run Amuck without struggling.
A healthy life is different for everyone so I have to agree with Teddy:
