Fosamax the Latest Drug Suspected of
            Severe Adverse Reactions

Recently severe side-effects have been reported from some women who are taking Fosamax. Fosamax is a drug prescribed by doctors to help increase bone density in women with Osteopenia and Osteoporosis. There seems to be a trend where drugs deemed as 'safe' by the FDA and medical doctors are presenting severe side-effects. In the past few years other drugs like Vioxx, Celbrex and NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, and Aleve) have all been shown to carry significant risks when taken on a regular basis.

On April 12th, 2006 USA 9 TV reported a story on one of the side effects of Fosamax. In the news report Michael Schwartz, an oral surgeon in Baltimore says most doctors aren?t even aware of the problems Fosamax can cause.
David Ennis, a DC attorney who is suing Merck Pharmaceuticals says:
"It's a $3 billion dollar a year drug. This company clearly is putting profit over people...because it knows once it puts a black box warning on label, sales will go down."

The solution... if you want good health, it's going to take a little work. Good health will NEVER come out of a bottle. Relying on medications, whether it's over the counter or prescription is a big decision and should be addressed with caution. Even when the FDA and the doctors think it is safe, it may not be.
Before taking any medications consider the following suggestions:

·         First incorporate healthy lifestyle changes like FUN physical activity, healthy foods and stress reduction before resorting to medications

·         Look for safer alternatives, such as vitamins and herbs, to resolve your health problems or consider treatment approaches like acupuncture, massage and chiropractic that carry significantly less risks

·         If medications are your only option, make sure you research the
side-effects thoroughly and decide if the benefits really outweigh the risks

·         Ask other people you know and see if they have experienced any problems with a particular medication or procedure

If you want more information on a safer, health solution or have questions about a particular medication or therapy; please email me at Woody@SequoiaHealth.com. We can discuss your questions over the phone or arrange for a FREE in-person consultation.

Remember... a balanced lifestyle is a healthy lifestyle!

Phyliss Finishes Reston MS 3.5 Walk in 6 Hours and 23 minutes

The MS Walk on Sunday April 2nd was the most beautiful day of the year. We had over 30 people walk. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for walking. Breakfast was a delicious start to our walk compliments of American Tap Room (ATR) in Reston Town Center. But the true star of the day... Phyliss Hurt. She impressed me and others with her determination and sheer will to finish.
My wife Nancy said "tell Phyliss she is my hero."

Phyliss' story is being added to our Success Stories page on the Sequoia Health website and should be finished in a few days. To see more Sequoia Success Stories, go to www.SequoiaHealth.com/success_stories. I want many more stories to put on the Sequoia Health website so I say,"be your own success story and make sure the whole world knows your accomplishments."

Mark your calendars for next years MS Walk and the return of Phyliss and
Team Sequoia as she tries to beat her personal best.

Prevent Diabetes With Healthy Lifestyle Changes

Diabetes is a metabolic disease that damages your heart, nervous system, kidneys and eye sight. It is a life shortening disease that is also the fastest growing health problem facing Americans today; faster than cancer or heart disease. Medical research has shown that healthy lifestyle changes: FUN physical activity, healthy eating and stress reduction, are the best prevention and cure for diabetes.

Take the First Step- Get Physically Active

Getting physically active is the first step to preventing or eliminating diabetes. Diabetics are typically sedentary people and have trouble with their weight. Lacking FUN physical activity, their metabolism shifts making it difficult for their bodies to properly utilize foods. Muscle development is also reduced promoting body fat storage rather than calorie burn. Start with something simple like walking; even if it?s only 5 minutes a day. Yes, 5 minutes a day makes a big difference in your diabetes and your health.

Step 2- Eat Healthy Foods

Eating a well balanced nutritional program provides the proper vitamins and minerals your body needs not only for growth and repair but optimum mental and physical performance. Diabetics typically have poor eating habits that chemically stress their body lowering the pH, increasing levels of stress hormones and decreasing immune system function. Another huge benefit of healthy eating is weight loss. Excess weight makes it difficult for insulin to work properly in your body. Healthy Weight Loss is the only way you should lose weight. Lose weight and take the load off your heart and pancreas, help your body restore balance and reverse the negative side effects of diabetes.

Step 3- Reduce Your Stress

Reducing your stress levels is the single most important step to living a healthy life without diabetes. Diabetics typically lead high stress lifestyles producing unwanted health problems such as unhealthy weight gain; strain on the pancreas and immune system and excess stress on the heart. Reducing high stress living also stops stress eating and allows the body to heal. Want to reduce your stress? Simplify your lifestyle and make time for you. Make time for yourself everyday, not just sometimes or on special occasions. When you feel stressed, take deep breaths. Review your schedule and make sure you're having FUN. It is no good to be 'A Jack of All Trades and Master of None.'

Living a balanced and healthy lifestyle is the best way to prevent disease and improve quality of life. Find out if your lifestyle is in balance by taking a moment and filling out our Health Investment Questionnaire (HIQ). Once you complete your HIQ; we'll calculate your LifeScore and arrange for a FREE telephone or in-person consultation to discuss your results.
